Greases are primarily classified by their thickeners, with the most common being metallic soaps. Others include bentonite clay, silica gel, polyurea and inorganic thickeners. Complex greases were developed to improve the heat resistance of soap greases. The most popular complex greases are lithium, aluminum, calcium and barium. The use of centralized lubrication systems for supplying either grease or circulating oil to components requiring lubrication is increasing dramatically.
